Volunteers at greenhouse have been growing seedlings to sell and share with the community. These volunteers will be selling a wide, ever-changing variety of plants and seeds at the Beban Learning Gardens site beside the pitch and putt golf course. These seedlings are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides from open pollinated and heritage variety seeds and are sold to backyard gardeners throughout Nanaimo and area.
Sales will take place every Wednesday in May to mid June from 10am to noon. Additional sale days at the site include Wednesday May 17th from 3:30pm to 6pm and Saturday May 27th 10am to 2pm. These additional dates will occur during the time of the Farmers Market at Beban Park but will be at the Beban Learning Gardens site.
Plants available include lettuce, cress, arugula, herbs, kale, broccoli, Swiss chard, Pac choi, leeks, onions, and heat lovers including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and tomatillos.
While this spring has been long and cool, it is almost time to plant out your tender annual vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and peppers so come on out and pick up any plants you need to complete your warm-weather garden.
