Nanaimo Community Gardens Society will be having its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday May 12th 2018 at the Beban Learning Gardens, the site at Beban Park. The sale will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We are very pleased to be having a Master Gardeners Table were you can receive information and advice on planting and growing. There will also be snacks and refreshments on hand kindly provided by Thrifty Foods.
Each year volunteers from our Greenhouse site raise beautiful, well-grown herb, vegetable and flower seedlings. These seedlings are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides from open pollinated and heritage variety seeds and are sold to backyard gardeners throughout Nanaimo and area. This plant sale has previously been hosted at the Pine St Community Garden. Please note the change in location to the Beban Learning Gardens located between the VIEx Grounds (with the red barns) and the Pitch and Putt Golf Course at Beban Park.
**In addition to the Annual Plant Sale on May 12th, some seedlings will be available to purchase at Beban Learning Gardens during the regular Wednesday morning work parties from 10:00am – 12:00 pm throughout the spring.
The plants available at this time of year are the cooler weather plants including lettuce, arugula, kale, Pac Choi, broad beans, strawberries and raspberries.
May is the ideal time of year for planting out your tender annual vegetables such as heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, herbs and edible flowers so come on out and pick up any plants you need to complete your warm-weather garden.
