Here we are in June and finally enjoying some more summerlike weather. Our spring plant sale season is over now and we would like to thank all the keen gardeners who came to buy our starter plants, chat, and browse around our new site inside and out.
Plants in boxes outside are doing fairly well despite the cool, wet spring. Currently being harvested are broad beans, snap peas, strawberries and even a few cukes! And, of course, in the greenhouse, we have tomatoes, squash, eggplant, cukes and sweet potatoes coming along nicely.
You may be interested to know that we are trying something new this summer. We have already started seeds for quite a wide variety of winter vegetables and hope to have them ready for sale as early as mid-July if all goes well. Here is a list of what we are starting and when it may be for sale:
Dragon’s Tongue Arugula – mid/end July
Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, kale, endives, radicchio – early August
Purple and white cauliflowers – mid- August
Hardy Romaines and Asian mustards – mid/end August
Walla Walla Onions and January King cabbage – early Sept.
We will keep you posted.
Other activities this month include building 3 new herb boxes and plans for installing drip irrigation in the greenhouse very soon.
Happy growing to all!
